Are You Looking to Make a Difference?! Apply Today!
Wriedt Lab at University of Texas at Dallas (Richardson, TX) is looking to fill a position as postdoctoral research associate in materials chemistry. Preferred starting date is January 2024 (later starting date can be negotiated if reasonable).
In this industrially sponsored postdoctoral project you will address interrelated fundamental aspects of the design, synthesis, and characterization of functional metal-organic framework (MOF) materials. MOFs are crystalline porous materials composed of metal clusters or ions connected by polytopic organic linkers forming 3D networks. Their framework structures, pore environments, and functionalities make them uniquely tunable by the choice and connection of metal and organic building blocks, allowing the design of innovative materials with customized properties. In particular, you will explore MOFs for the controlled microencapsulation of important and industrially relevant active molecules. Resulting composite materials are expected to show superior stabilities and reactivities as compared to the pristine (i.e., free) active molecules.
Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D in a related field.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • A Ph.D. in chemistry (or related areas) and you have a strong background in MOF chemistry (including MOF nanoparticles) with ample of experimental experience in the fields of synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry.

  • Additional experience in mechanochemical synthesis would be a plus.

  • Also, well experienced in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data from common analytical techniques such as SCXRD, PXRD, NMR, UV-Vis (transmission and reflectance), NMR, and adsorption analysis.

  • As an ideal candidate, you show excellent communication skills (written and verbal). You are expected to independently handle the preparation of sponsor reports and research manuscripts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, conduct, and direct a wide variety of experiments. Responsible for the evaluation and interpretation of research data. Conduct experiments using advanced equipment and applying complex techniques, methods and procedures. Develop research protocols and supervise graduate or undergraduate researchers. Prepare written reports and contribute to the writing of research articles techniques, methods and procedures.

Additional Information
Led by Dr. Mario Wriedt, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Fellow, Francis S. and Maurine G. Johnson Chair, Wriedt Lab is a young and highly energetic group whose research activities are focused at developing new strategies for the design and synthesis of advanced functional solid-state materials from molecular building blocks and advancing the understanding of their structure-property relationship. We are located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area which offers abundant recreational activities.
