The Department of Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) (http://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and is recruiting for a Neuropathology Scientist.
UC San Diego has one of the longest funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers and has internationally renowned programs in basic and clinical research into the cause, effects, and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. Its excellence is further enhanced by strong partnerships with scientists from the Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) Salk Institute, The Scripps Research Institute, and the Sanford-Burnham-Prebys Medical Discovery Institute.
The successful candidate will be become an integral partner in the research efforts of the Department of Neurosciences and the Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. These programs are part of the campus-wide UC San Diego commitment to excellence in Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.
The selected candidate will lead and contribute to research initiatives, as well as provide high-quality teaching.
The selected candidate may be proposed for an endowed chair if the area of research aligns with the donor's intent.
The appointment will be based on the candidate's background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Candidates must have a PhD in Neurology or related fields, and/or a MD or equivalent.
Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in basic or translational neuroscience research in aging, neurodegeneration, and Alzheimer's disease. This experience must include at least 5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: neuropathology, neuroscience, neurobiology, genetics, or Alzheimer's disease-related biomarkers. Candidates must also have at least 5 years of demonstrated research excellence, as evidenced by successful grant funding and peer-reviewed publications in these areas.
